How to animate an old photo on your phone
You don't need to install an app. On an iPhone or an Android phone, you photograph the print, open Incarn in your browser and get the animation back in about a minute. Here is the whole process, with real screenshots of each step.
Step by step
- Photograph the print. Take it out of the album sleeve, lay it flat near a window, turn off the flash and hold the phone parallel to it. On iPhone, the Notes app can scan it: tap the camera icon, then Scan Documents. On iPhone and Android, Google's free PhotoScan app removes glare by combining several shots.
- Crop around the face in your Photos or Gallery app. A bigger face gives a more natural animation.
- Open incarn.co in Safari or Chrome and choose the photo. Incarn checks it first and warns you if the face looks too small or too blurry.
- Enter your email, then the six-digit code you receive. You can also continue with Google or Apple.
- Wait about a minute. An animation takes 57 seconds on average, and is ready in under two minutes.
- Watch the preview. The first animation is free as a preview with a watermark: drag the slider to compare before and after.
- Get the HD version if you like it: €1.99 for that photo, or a pack if you have more.
- Save it. On iPhone, the video downloads to the Files app (Downloads): open it, tap Share, then Save Video to add it to Photos. On Android, it usually appears in Downloads and in your gallery.
Animate a photo on Incarn First animation free to preview, then from €1.99 per photo. No subscription.
